Is your Electricity Supplier Ripping you off?

Is your Electricity Supplier ripping you off?

  • Did you know that electricity companies sign you up to a contract which can last up to three years?
  • If you do not give notice at the correct time then they will just roll you over onto a new one without telling you.
  • They will also increase the rate that you are paying, the result?

The result is that you end up being stuck in non competitive contracts for years on end.

                                                                                                                                                                                                              Not all Electricity is Good.

Recently a Recruitment Agency client of ours asked us to look at his Electricity bills,

we looked forward to comparing his rates to the myriad of suppliers that are now available.

[Did you know there are    now over 30 Gas and Electricity suppliers in the UK you should

be checking, don’t use the price comparison sites for your business, fine for your home].

Anyway back to the recruitment company, we checked to see when their contract was up

and found it was not for 3 years as he had just been rolled over , as a consequence they are

now paying over 30% too much as compared to the rates we could have got them.

Three Top Tips For saving money on your Electricity Bills.

1]    Check when your contract ends . [Or we can do it for you]

2]    Get the Cost Detectives to explore the market for you at no charge to find you the best rate.

3]    Turn stuff off when you are not using it!

Of course if you would like us to help you check your existing contract then just drop me a line to Marcus@TheCostDetectives.co.ukand we will do all we can to get those bills reduced.

Why have a Franking Machine? 3 Tips on what you need to take into account.

Posted in 3 Tips from the Cost Detectives by Marcus on July 23, 2012 1 Comment

Do you need a Franking Machine?

Does your office have a franking machine? Do you know why?  These  are the top 3 reasons for having a Franking Machine.

1                     Postage costs can be up to 38% cheaper than using stamps!

2                     No more “we have run out of stamps I’m off to the post office”, then not retuning for hours on end!

3                     You can print your own logo onto each envelope using the Franking machine.

But what you also need to be aware of is that if you only do a few letters then the cost of buying or leasing a franking machine does not make sense. If you have about 10-25 letters a day then you may well be better off, especially given the extra time saving of not going to the post office and using the franking machine takes a fraction of the time of using stamps.

The best quote we had from the experts that we use was “That client does not need a franking machine”. So find a team that will not just sell you a machine but will give you good advice.

Remember if you have a machine already especially if you lease it, they are a lot like business mobile phones. The Costs are falling and new companies may buy you out of the contract you are in so it always worth checking if you can get a better deal.

Do not forget that each machine has their own consumables such as ink so make sure not to sign up a contract that has a fixed extra price for consumables without checking.

Of course if you would like us to help you check your existing contract or advise on taking the plunge on your first then just drop me a line to Marcus@TheCostDetectives.co.uk and we will do all we can to help.

Business phone bills ; 3 Tips to see if you are paying too much!

Business Phone Bills

We have been saving costs for organisations costs for years on all sorts of costs from A to Z. Today we are focussing on land line telephony costs.

The cost of telephony continues to fall and the suppliers margins are falling or they should be. We see a huge variety of costs being paid for the same call so many suppliers are still making too much money!

As with a lot of things, businesses just want the phones to work and they do not have time to check if they are paying too much. The imagined hassle of changing suppliers is also something the procrastinator holds onto.

The changes in the industry means it is now easier than ever to change suppliers and there is no excuse!

Your supplier is not about to tell you that you are being overcharged you need to get it checked for yourself, in the years we have been looking at costs we have saved money on 98% of telephony bills that we have seen.

So what 3 Tips can we give you to let you know if you are paying too much?

    1. Are you being charged a minimum call charge? Have a look on your bill if you see a 1 to 10 second call and they all cost the same, then you are being charged just for connecting. You are paying too much, this billing went out with the ark!
    2. Does it cost more than 6.5pence per minute to call a mobile? The cost of calling mobiles was always an expensive per minute charge but costs have fallen dramatically in the last few years as more and more mobile calls are made. Can be less for high volumes!
    3. How much are your lines , more than £12.50 per month? Lines are a regulated product so they are all looked after by BT so even when you change supplier the underlying provider is still BT.

If you would like another 3 tips on what you should be looking out or if you have any trouble trying to identify if you are paying too much then just send us a copy of your latest bill to Marcus@TheCostDetectives.co.uk and we can advise for you.

Printing Costs: 3 Tips that tell you that you are paying too much for print.

Printing Costs ; 3 Tips that tell you that you are paying too much for print.

The print world is another area where firms are currently fighting over each other to try and get the next job. There are print firms closing every week as they battle each other as well as the inexorable rise of digital media.

Digital printing is now well established and can be a huge benefit if you need personalised print runs, the specialists can still be found but there does seem to be a growing gap between the big boys and the one man operations with less company’s found in the middle.

However we all know that in a lot of cases we just need to get something printed to a high standard and on time

So what tips can we give you to let you know if you are paying too much?

  1. If you have been with the same printer for a number of years. If this is true then you must benchmark your next print run, as mentioned prices have fallen.
  2. Are you printing on both sides? Think of the extra information you can put on the back the extra costs are not that much.
  3. Are you always printing at the last minute? If you are then you cannot ask for it to be printed on the same print runs as other jobs or during quiet periods for a discount.
